William M. Goodes' Jumbo Junior was a marvelously well-drawn and funny strip, about a Mr. Eelie whose son George sends him a baby elephant from Africa. It got loose immediately, and now each strip is about Eelie's attempts to reclaim him. Eelie tries all sorts of Road Runneresque schemes, including a series of costumes, a snake charmer, an alchemist, his clairvoyant wife, the alchemist's apprentice, and even dosing the poor li'l guy with Opium! But the result is always the same--"There he goes again!"
